Dr. Melinda Keller Earns Masterclass Certification in Peripheral Neuropathy
On May 31, 2019, Dr. Melinda Keller received Masterclass Certification in Peripheral Neuropathy from the International Medical Advisory Board on Peripheral Neuropathy (I.M.A.B.P.N.).
The certification was presented by Dr. Eric S. Kaplan, CEO of NeuroMed/NeuroDoc Centers, and Dr. Perry Bard, board member of I.M.A.B.P.N. and President of NeuroMed/NeuroDoc Centers.
What the Certification Represents
The International Medical Advisory Board on Peripheral Neuropathy is made up of medical physicians and chiropractic physicians who have completed upper-level national training in peripheral neuropathy and have demonstrated an exemplary level of excellence in diagnosing and treating peripheral neuropathy disorders. Masterclass status confers elite standing and is awarded to only a small number of doctors each year.
Understanding Peripheral Neuropathy
Peripheral neuropathy occurs when nerves outside the brain and spinal cord are damaged or dysfunctional, often resulting in burning pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness, most commonly in the hands and feet. It can stem from a number of causes, including diabetes, nerve compression, and other underlying conditions, and it tends to worsen over time when left untreated.
Because peripheral neuropathy affects the nervous system directly, effective care requires a provider trained specifically in its diagnosis and treatment, not just general pain management.
