Cold laser therapy at Brooklyn Spine Center

Cold laser therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to help reduce pain and inflammation and support the body’s natural healing. At Brooklyn Spine Center, it’s often used alongside chiropractic adjustments and other therapies.

Light energy that reaches into tissue

Cold laser therapy, also called photobiomodulation, uses light energy that’s absorbed by cells in the treated area. This can boost cellular energy, improve local circulation, and help calm inflammation. We use the MedRay QuantumX Class IV which delivers enough power to reach deeper tissue than lower-powered lasers.

Where cold laser fits in your care

Cold laser is usually one part of a broader care plan, used alongside chiropractic care, spinal decompression, PEMF therapy, and shockwave therapy.

Spine and disc pain

Helps calm inflammation around irritated nerves and supports healing in the surrounding tissue.

Peripheral neuropathy

Often included in neuropathy care plans to help ease burning, numbness, or tingling in the hands and feet.

Joint pain and soft tissue injuries

Helps reduce inflammation in painful joints, tendons, and ligaments.

Muscle tension and spasms

Helps relax tight muscles and ease spasms, especially in the neck, shoulders, and back.

Recovery after other treatments

Used after adjustments, shockwave, or decompression to help ease soreness and support recovery.

What a cold laser session is like

The laser is applied over the treatment area without pressure or discomfort. Most patients feel mild warmth or tingling at most. Protective eyewear is used, and sessions are often combined with other therapies.

A different approach to inflammation

Medication and ice can help with pain, but they don’t target the tissue itself. Cold laser works directly in the treated area to help calm inflammation while supporting the body’s repair process.

Targeted to the problem area

Cold laser works where it’s applied, instead of throughout your whole body.

Better together with structural care

Pairing cold laser with chiropractic care and decompression addresses both inflammation and the mechanical source of pain.

Questions about Cold Laser Therapy

1. Is cold laser therapy the same as laser surgery or other medical lasers?

No. Surgical lasers cut tissue. Cold laser therapy uses light at levels that stimulate a healing response without cutting or damaging tissue. The term “cold” refers to that non-destructive effect.

2. Will I feel the laser during treatment?

Most patients feel only mild warmth or gentle tingling. Protective eyewear is required for both you and your clinician.

3. How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your condition, how long you’ve had it, and how your body responds. Chronic or nerve-related conditions usually need more sessions than recent injuries. Your doctor will recommend a plan as part of your care.

4. Are there conditions where cold laser therapy is not appropriate?

Yes. Cold laser isn’t used over active cancer, the thyroid, the eyes without protection, or the abdomen during pregnancy, and sometimes not over certain implanted devices. Your doctor screens for these first and will discuss other options if needed.

5. Is cold laser therapy covered by insurance?

Coverage varies by plan, and cold laser therapy isn’t covered by all policies. Our billing team can check your benefits, and we’ll talk with you about costs before this therapy begins. Learn more on our Costs & Insurance page.
